Frampton Cotterell Parish Council To Commemorate D-Day 80 with Community Anniversary Event

June 6th, 2024, will mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings.

To commemorate this anniversary, Frampton Cotterell Parish Council will be hosting a community event at the Centenary Field in Frampton Cotterell from 7:45PM – 9:15PM on Thursday June 6th. We will also be taking part in the International D-Day 80 Beacons Tribute by lighting the Frampton Cotterell Beacon.

The event will see performances by the Crossbow Singers, a pipe-player, and a drill by the Air Cadets. The local Fire Brigade will also be bringing along a fire engine for kids (and big kids!) to look at close-up, plus the Frampton Cotterell Scout group will be making popcorn! The Air Cadets will also be running a tombola, and the parish council will be providing refreshments.

We are also pleased to let you know that local historian Liz Ferguson will be joining us with her World War II Mini Museum caravan – a thought-provoking collection that’s not to be missed.

At 9:15PM, we will join the International D-Day Anniversary Tribute by lighting the Frampton Cotterell Beacon. Our beacon lighting will coincide with beacon lightings across the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, the UK Overseas Territories, and along the shorelines of Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword beaches in Normandy.

We invite you to join us in honouring and commemorating the bravery and sacrifice of those who helped secure the peace and freedom we enjoy today.
