Background of FACE

Aside from FACE’s work with young people in Frampton Cotterell, FACE additionally supports people of all ages across South Gloucestershire with a variety of needs and disabilities. If you want to find out more about these additional activities and where they take place, feel free to keep up to date on FACE’s website!

FACE (Foundation for Active Community Engagement) has been running as a South Gloucestershire-based organisation for several decades – though it has been on a long journey to get to where it is today! The project began in Filton, back in the 1960s. Its formerly named ‘Filton Youth Club’ underwent a tragic minibus accident which was fatal for 11 of its members. Following this unforeseen event, a community appeal resulted in the building of the Filton Youth Centre next to St. Andrews Methodist Church. Decades later, the centre is managed by FACE, and remains a hub for youth and community services.

FACE’s official status as a youth and community work charity was gained in 2014; since then, its projects and reach have continued to expand beyond the Filton centre. FACE luckily thrived through the Covid-19 lockdowns, with charitable funds paving the way for responsive, wide-ranging community aid, as well as online support.
