In May of 2024, Frampton Cotterell Parish Council re-opened the tennis courts at The Park (Crossbow) to the public. This opening event marked the culmination of a year-long refurbishment project to rejuvenate the tennis courts and give our parishioners the chance to get back into the sport of tennis – and local engagement has been nothing short of enthusiastic!
Thanks to the introduction of smart technology access and improved booking systems, we are now able to generate detailed statistics on court use. This includes finding “peak time” patterns, which will allow us to promote the tennis courts during off-peak times and help more people get an opportunity to play.
From their re-opening in May 2024 to the first week of January 2025, the tennis courts at The Park have had:
- 506 successful court bookings
- 52 Household Membership sign-ups
- a generated income of £3,961.20
Fantastic!
We are so pleased that the community is getting so much use out of these refurbished tennis courts, and that our project has proven to be such a success. We are also pleased to find that even during the colder winter months, the tennis courts continue to be well used!
The money raised by tennis court bookings will be used for the continued maintenance of the courts, such as repainting the surfaces, making repairs, and ensuring that the tennis courts are safe for play across the year. Every time you pay for a court booking, you are helping keep these fantastic facilities available and maintained to a high standard for the whole community.
If you have any questions or comments about the tennis courts, you can contact us on tennis@framptoncotterell-pc.gov.uk or visit www.framptoncotterell-pc.gov.uk/about-the-tennis-courts to learn more.
Book Your Session!
Everyone is welcome to book a session at our tennis courts. Bookings are priced at £5 per hour.
If you and other people in your household play more than seven hours of tennis per year, consider signing up for our Annual Household Membership. For just £35 per year, up to 8 members of a household can play tennis for a whole year – talk about a bargain!
Free Sessions
As part of our efforts to improve local access to sports, the parish council makes provision for free group sessions for children and young people.
We’d love to encourage more local youth groups to take advantage of these free sessions. If your children attend a local group, or if you or someone you know runs a youth group, please ask the group leader to get in touch with us to find out more!
The parish council is keen to offer free group tennis sessions on Saturday mornings from 10am to 11am for anyone over the age of 8 years old. These sessions would be aimed at people who want to learn the basics of the sport, people who have additional support needs, and anyone who would just like to make some new friends and have some fun!
However, to make this possible, we desperately need volunteers.
Activator Volunteers
To become an Activator Volunteer, you don’t need any experience – you don’t even need to be good at playing tennis!
Everyone who signs up as a volunteer will be given full training by the Lawn Tennis Association and provided with all the equipment needed to set up and run free group sessions. All volunteers will also receive a free hoodie, online training, and ongoing support.
Volunteering in sport is more than just giving back; it’s a chance to connect with your community and make a real difference to people’s lives. Help your fellow villagers meet new people, improve their mental and physical wellbeing, and (re)discover their love for sport! Over 25,000 people choose to volunteer in tennis across Britain at all levels. We’d love for you to join them!

What’s Next?
The parish council’s next priority for the tennis courts is to deliver an all-weather accessible pathway linking the tennis courts to park entrances and exits. Our aim is to begin this project this spring. This project will help to make the tennis courts more accessible to more people all year round.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who responded to our tennis courts and park pathway surveys over the last few years. Your engagement helps us to secure funding for improving local facilities for everyone. Thank you!
