Volunteers Wanted For Local Miniature Railway

A message from the Bridge House Light Railway.

You might think that the last train to serve Frampton Cotterell and Coalpit Heath was at the Ram Hill station that closed in 1961.

In fact, railways have been operating regularly for more than 35 years in Frampton Cotterell – although the total length of the line is less than half a kilometre long and measures approximately 18.5cm between the rails (7.25 inches) and the trains rarely carry more than 10 passengers!

Bridge House Residential Home is the home of this miniature passenger carrying railway that runs on bank holidays, Birthday parties and other special days. The group of enthusiasts are known as Bridge House Light Railway and members spend a lot of their spare time during weekdays and weekends maintaining the track, carriages and locomotives so that an afternoon of fun can be had by all visitors.

We have members of the Bridge House Light Railway who have been working on the railway since it was started in 1990 – some of whom are now in their 90s!

We are now looking to encourage some new blood so the railway can continue. If you think you could spare some time to help with station duties on public running days or birthday parties then please get in touch.

If your interest might reach a little deeper into maintenance and running the railway we will be happy to see you on a Wednesday morning or some other time that would suit you. We will be pleased to show you all of the workings of our railway from track and rolling stock maintenance to driving a loco!

You do not need any experience as we can show all you need to know.

To get in contact Bridge House Railway by telephone on 07432 710040 or via email at bridgehouserailway@gmail.com.
