The Frampton Cotterell Parish Council Community Awards seek to recognise and thank those local heroes who contribute so much to our village.
This year we received many nominations, all of which were extremely worthy of an award! To all those nominated, we say Thank You for your fantastic work and contributions over the past year, and congratulations on being nominated.
2024 Winners
It is our honour to share with you the six winners of the 2024 Frampton Cotterell Parish Council Community Awards.
Lifetime Achievement Award for a Group
Frampton Cotterell Cricket Club
Frampton Cotterell Parish Council Chair, Cllr. Linda Williams, said,
“Frampton Cotterell Cricket Club celebrates its hundredth anniversary this year. Over the years, it has built its own club house, which was later sold to the Parish Council for a very small price. The club has encouraged young people to take up the sport – and who knows one day one of these hopefuls may be playing for England!
We would like to present this [award and prize as a] small token of our appreciation for all the cricket club has achieved over the years.”
Lifetime Achievement Award for an Individual
Paul (Charlie) Chaplin
Frampton Cotterell Parish Council Chair, Cllr. Linda Williams, said,
“Paul (Charlie) took over the running of Crossbow House & St Peter’s Hall on behalf of the FCDCA. He transformed Crossbow House through its running, decoration and improving the facilities for hire. Many groups now hire the facility, and it has become a hub for Four Towns Transport, who provide a regular income through rent.
Charlie’s ability to work with everyone, including local agencies, was second to none. His infectious, cheeky sense of humour made him a very endearing person.
Sadly, Charlie passed away suddenly in late 2022. He is greatly missed.
We would like to present this small token of our appreciation for all Charlie did.”
Action In The Community Award
Frampton Cotterell Nature Group
Frampton Cotterell Parish Council Chair, Cllr. Linda Williams, said,
“Frampton Cotterell Nature Group (FCN) has been running since 2022, and has contributed a huge amount to local nature. Their work has included:
- supporting the design and implementation of the pond at Centenary Field;
- Working with Frampton Cotterell Parish Council to run monthly conservation volunteer sessions. Members of the nature group have attended every volunteer session since they began in 2022, helping to plant trees, wildflowers and shrubs as well as create habitats;
- Running quarterly committee meetings to discuss how to help nature thrive in the village, including successfully working to encourage local landowners and stakeholders to participate;
- FCN members are now helping to manage an allotment at Mill Lane, which will be for local food and a tree nursery;
- … And much more!”
Individual Achievement Award
Geoff Bell
Frampton Cotterell Parish Council Chair, Cllr. Linda Williams, said,
“As one of the village’s First Responders, Geoff has given himself selflessly to the community. He is always on hand, and has saved peoples live. Geoff also maintains the defibrillators in our area so they are always ready for action, should they be needed.
Geoff has been a first responder for many years, and we would like to give him this award as a token of our appreciation.”
Individual Achievement Award
Nick Knight
Frampton Cotterell Parish Council Chair, Cllr. Linda Williams, said,
“Nick was one of the founder members of Frampton Cotterell RFC in 1973, and its first ever team captain. Over the years, Nick has held a variety of roles at the club, culminating in him being the current President.
Nick has worked tirelessly for the club and wider community, giving countless hours of his own time for the benefit of others.
Today, Frampton Cotterell RFC has three senior teams, three girls’ teams, and a thriving junior section with 12 age groups going from under-6’s through to colts. None of this would be possible without the tireless efforts of Nick and those he encourages into a variety of roles.
It is no exaggeration to say over the past 50 years, the numbers of junior and senior players who have represented Frampton Cotterell RFC will number in the thousands.”
Outstanding Young Person
Sophia Higenbottam
Frampton Cotterell Parish Council Chair, Cllr. Linda Williams, said,
Sophia has been part of the scouts Young Leader programme since September 2023.
Starting as a shy, quiet, people watcher, Sophia has since developed the skills of leadership: patience, reasoning, care, and assertiveness (as needed!), as well as growing in confidence!
Sophia is always willing to get stuck in to the weekly activities with the younger Beavers and Scouts and will happily run games, activities and provide First Aid as required.
Sophia also volunteers her time within the wider community, for example, playing the bugle at the Frampton Cotterell Remembrance Parade in November.
Sophia is a real asset to the community, and we are grateful that she volunteers with the Scouts each week.”
