Frampton Cotterell Parish Council. 2024 Climate & Nature Local Art Exhibition.

2024 Climate & Nature Local Art Exhibition – A Huge Success!

Frampton Cotterell Parish Council is delighted to share the highlights of our Climate & Nature Art Exhibition 2024, held from the 27th of August to the 1st of September at the Brockeridge Centre. This year’s theme, focusing on Climate & Nature, attracted an incredible variety of local talent, and the event was a great success, drawing in scores of visitors over the course of the week.

The exhibition featured a stunning collection of climate and nature-themed artwork, with contributions from both seasoned artists and enthusiastic beginners. The creativity and passion on display was truly inspiring, with works ranging from wildlife photography, mosaics, oil paintings, fibre-crafts, wood carvings and more, all showcasing the incredible talent we have here in our community.

We had some wonderful entries in our Under 16s Art Competition, too! Young local artists produced some unique creative pieces which contributed beautifully to the wider exhibition. The winning entry was created by Darcie, whose modernist floral collage captured the spirit of this year’s theme sparklingly.

Throughout the week, local people had the opportunity to enjoy a variety of free workshops, talks, and nature-based activities, which complemented the exhibition. Highlights included:

  • Kids Nature Art & Crafts Session: On the opening day, local children gathered to create their own nature-inspired art, including designing custom badges using our brand new badge-maker! Their creativity was infectious, and many of the pieces created during this session were proudly displayed in our main exhibition hall.
  • Secret World of Sound Talk: Sharmila Choudhury, producer of the hit nature documentary series Secret World of Sound, gave a captivating talk on the making of the show. Attendees were fascinated by behind-the-scenes insights into the making of this iconic nature series. Thank you to the Frampton Cotterell Nature Group for organising this talk!
  • …And thank you again to the Frampton Cotterell Nature Group for organising both the Bug Hunt & Moth Club activity sessions! Families gathered in the Nature Garden for a fun-filled Bug Hunt, spotting all sorts of insects while learning about the vital role these creatures play in our ecosystem. The Moth Club on the final day was another crowd-pleaser, with local moth experts giving a close-up look at some of our night-time visitors.
  • The Climate & Nature Drop-In Discussions, hosted by Councillor Snaith, provided a fantastic opportunity for residents to share their thoughts and ideas on how we can shape our local climate and nature plans. The feedback from these (and future similar) sessions will play a crucial role in guiding the council’s Climate and Nature policies moving forward.
  • The Nature Special Coffee & Cake Morning, hosted by the wonderful Lesley, offered a warm and welcoming space for locals to gather, chat and support fundraising efforts for local climate causes through the Nature Tombola.

This exhibition and the accompanying events would not have been possible without the incredible support from our local artists, volunteers, and community members. A huge thank you to everyone who got involved in this year’s exhibition, and to all of the staff and volunteers whose support made this event possible.
